STATE OF THE GAME
Hello and welcome to all of our new friends for joining us! For important updates to the game, please take a look at the HOUSEKEEPING section below.
⚔︎ There are some changes occurring within the guilds, as outlined within the OOC Plotting & Welcome post. There will not be a mod-posted log for these details.
It appears ATOMIGHT is being pushed out of his leadership position by the controlling powers of the Alliance. He is fighting to remain in power. Rumor has it that FANTASTIC may succeed him as he is more than happy to go along with whatever the powers that be tell him to. Player characters are welcome to reach out to him on NPC engagement to get his take on the situation.
Along with that, player characters in the Alliance will find themselves being pushed into more photo ops and press tours to try to quell the growing unrest towards metahumans. You are welcome to have your character stage some fights with members of The Society.
THE SOCIETY is doing a recruitment drive. Metahumans may see ads spontaneously appearing on their feeds, saying the SOCIETY wants YOU. MECHANIMA is assisting with the protests occurring in EXCELSIOR. He is not a visible presence, as he so rarely appears in person. Player characters can definitely take note that a very sophisticated and powerful technopath is wreaking havoc in systems. They can also reach out to communicate with him here.
Finally, the UNALIGNED suddenly find themselves being scapegoated. Politicians across the two largest metahuman cities are pointing fingers towards the influx of new metahumans who refuse to join the Alliance. They don't mention The Society, as it is forever an open secret. Instead they target FRANCES STARLING, the 'unofficial leader', demanding she join the Alliance or face the consequences. Frances gives a very public refusal.
There is a public movement demanding that she clip her wings. If she won't commit them to protecting the innocent from her own kind, then she shouldn't have them at all.
While she is untouchable, player characters who have been openly using their powers -costumed or uncostumed - are in danger. There is a man known as THE FIXER offering a hefty sum to any unaligned metas willing to stage some crimes and be caught by Alliance heroes doing so. If he can't find his fair share of willing participants he's more than ready to kidnap them and use a little mind control to get what he wants. ⚔︎ We have updated the ENGAGEMENT POSTS, so please feel free to take a look at them! Players who are interested in crafting a mini event or arc can submit their ideas at PLAYER PLOTS. If you want to follow up on an event, investigate the setting or interact with a NPC, you can hit up SETTING ENGAGEMENT and NPC ENGAGEMENT respectively.

⚔︎ AUGUST ARRIVALS LOSE THEIR FREE RIDE! When characters first arrived, the guilds promised to help them get their footing. Per notices sent to each occupied room, characters have until OCTOBER 26TH before their stay at the Diadem Hotel comes to an end. Characters who commit to a guild may take advantage of the associated housing subsidy or may use their own personal income to secure private housing.
Players unsure whether this affects their characters can check on the GUILDS page. As characters are removed from the Diadem Hotel, players should comment to the HOUSING page with updates on where they are staying. The deadline for October arrivals is December 26.
⚔︎ CENTRAL CITY — The city doesn't do Halloween. Understandable, as so many traditionally costumes are centered around superpowers and the supernatural. Truth is, they just know it invites trouble. One too many times of a Halloween party going awry as everyone gains the powers of their costumes means there's a soft ban on such activities on these streets. Instead, they go all-in on the changing of the seasons.
⚔︎ LITTLE LOVE - As the climate towards metahumans grows markedly worse around the country, life in Little Love continues much as it always has. With Halloween rapidly approaching, the town is getting in to the fall festivities. There's an enormous corn maze ready and waiting to be lost in. A pumpkin carving contest where the most creative design takes home a brand new pick-up truck. The townsfolk are encouraged to dress up for Halloween and to have a hefty supply of chocolate and candies for all the little trick of treaters. Many of the people in Little Love appear to be wearing very... sci-fi inspired costumes. Extra-terrestrials seem to be a very popular design, and many of them look surprisingly real.
⚔︎ SUNSET FALLS - As expected, Sunset Falls lives and breathes Halloween. There are posters all over town encouraging people to protect themselves against the supernatural threats. Don't invite any strangers across your threshold. If you're on a date, make sure you cross some running water just to ensure that they're being honest about who and what they are. There's something... odd, in the air, though. There are voices heard at night in the basement of the school. Dark whispers that chill your very soul. The air feels thin and though a chill in the fall is normal, you may find yourself shaking violently for no reason at all. When you sleep, you may find yourself suddenly seated in a boat with a skeleton ferryman - who looks very confused to see you sitting there, checking an ancient parchment list twice before banishing you with a wave of his hand.
As the Guild given housing is very haunted, player characters will be hearing firsthand from their dead roommates that there's something wrong. They're suddenly able to interact with the world much more easily than they did before, leading them to believe the line between life and death is... eroding.
⚔︎ EXCELSIOR - With the Alliance working overtime to restore the faith in metahumanity, Excelsior seems to be calming down. There is a boom in dimensional technology research - they want to send all of these people home, immediately.
Research into anti-meta protections is in high gear. There are discussions and debates about the value of large-scale depowering technology being installed in all major businesses. Insurance rates for metahumans is skyrocketing regardless of what kind of powers they have. For those with membership to the Guilds, this is nothing they need to worry about. For the Unaffliated who let it slip that they have powers, though, they may find themselves being priced out of their homes. They may also find they're being lain off from work as city bylaws dictate that any business with a metahuman employee must guarantee the space is reinforced, regardless of what the business does.
The Society is here doing active recruitment. As is The Fixer, who is more than happy to offer you a job and a temporary alias if you're willing to sell out a little.
