Quentin Beck (Mysterio) | Marvel Comics

Player Name & Pronouns: Sage (she/her)
Preferred Communication: [plurk.com profile] quentinbeck or PM

Character Name & Journal: Quentin Beck (aka Mysterio) [personal profile] makeanentrance

Guild Affiliation:

Beck is someone who's more often than not taken the villainous path but he's been known to occasionally help the good guys (usually for selfish ends). He's also wanted to retire and get away from it all but he's been drawn back in by friends and foes alike. In other words, he'll come in as yet undecided about his path but can be swayed, depending upon who he speaks to and their positive or negative influences.

Character Motivations & IC/OOC Goals:

I'm pretty open in general to letting character interactions guide a lot of where things go! Beck's canon point is from near the end of The Amazing Mary Jane arc so he's finishing up his biopic and is wanting to do better (before he gets basically sent back to square one in subsequent Spider-Man comics). So heroes could try to convince him to help out and after being attacked by a group of villains back home, he may be more wary of some of them here. But he's an unstable character and could go either way and turn very quickly.

Overall his motivations are to leave a lasting legacy and have his name well known, for better or for worse. He'd been a shy kid, told he was useless by his father and neglected growing up, so he's often struggling, can be socially awkward when not wearing his helmet and costume (or acting as someone else). He's overcompensated by needing attention and going over the top with grandiosity. OOC, I'd love for him to find some interesting CR and see where it goes!

Plot/CR Hooks:

Most obviously, Mysterio is known as a Spider-Man villain and he's done some terrible things but he's also been shown to have a conscience at times and has tried to escape the villainous life. So he should definitely run into all the Spider-Man related characters, especially those that know who he is (comics or film versions). He may want to team up with people but he does have trust issues about that as backstabbing often happens and he'll watch out for himself first.

He has a love of film (a great escape when he was a child) and he was a special effects and stuntman who turned to crime and used his skills for that instead. He's also directed and acted. He's skilled with many things including robotics, chemistry and psychology (and has posed as a psychiatrist). If character's want to mess with other character's minds, Beck is the one to go to.

As a bonus, Beck has developed a new power here of actual teleportation, limited to a short range and no barriers (e.g. not through walls). He'll need some help adjusting to using that.
