BREAKING NEWS: FANTASTIC HAS TAKEN OVER AS LEADER OF THE ALLIANCE
On May 19th the following news article goes live, and gets posted - everywhere. Twitter, Ourpowers, Reddit, covering the face of newspapers, and everyone is talking about it.
Player characters who are within the Alliance may notice their own access to the Alliance's systems have been extremely limited; if asked, they'll be told that Fantastic's team is rewriting rules and regulations and have turned off access for most individuals until they're able to complete their audit. Further investigations will show that this only applies to Starfallen and those who have befriended them.
Attempts to reach out to Fantastic will be unsuccessful - blocked by secretaries, bodyguards, and fellow heroes. Atomight, after giving his statement, has temporarily fallen off the map. Mechanima is still working on his "hostile takeover" of Central City. Frances, like Atomight, has fallen off the map.
We'll be following up on this both in the June State of the Game and the CR meme.
BREAKING NEWS
ATOMIGHT HAS STEPPED DOWN AS LEADER OF THE ALLIANCE, HANDING OVER THE REIGNS TO FANTASTIC. FANTASTIC AND ATOMIGHT HAVE RELEASED STATEMENTS ON THE FUTURE OF THE ALLIANCE.
Fantastic: "I have a lot of respect for Atomight; he's worked hard over his time as our number one hero, he's logged a lot of hours and dealt with a looot of situations that I'm not even sure I'd know how to handle - but you know what they say: you can't teach an old dog new tricks, and the times are changing. The world is evolving, and the Alliance needs to evolve along with it. I've got a lot of changes I want to bring to the table, for all of our sakes. The Alliance is here to protect the people, and that's what we need to refocus on. My people will be working hard on making sure these changes work for everyone; we'll make announcements in a few weeks after we've gotten everyone settled into their new positions. Until then - deuces, ya'll."
Atomight: "Times are changing - even if I am no longer the leader of the Alliance, I am still dedicated to protecting the people of this world. I'll always fight for a better tomorrow, for everyone. Please don't take this as me stepping away from doing all I can to help, but as the Alliance simply. . . changing hands. "
We approached Mechanima and Frances for their thoughts, but were unable to get in contact with either of them for direct word. Given the situation in Central City, Mechanima's absence isn't surprising - but everyone wants to know: where is Frances? What does this mean for the Alliance? For the world?

However, the practicalities of switching teams might be simple, but there are consequences on a character's reputation. A former Alliance member coming to the Society will likely be seen as trying to spy on the latest plots, plans, and schemes. A former Society member coming into the Alliance might find that their new heroic companions don't trust them not to backslide and might hold grudges for old plots.
Characters are welcome to leave the Alliance, and immediately join the Society, or vice versa.

Huvrye is currently in guild housing; if he swaps from Alliance to Society, will that affect that?
And to swap guilds, do we just hop over to the Guilds page and delete the old comment/leave a new one with a note about the swap, or is there another OOC process?

And deleting the old comment / leaving a new one with a note about the swap is the correct OOC process. You'll also want to update the taken list.

We're alright with him being used in a post; keep in mind that he's being heavily scripted and therefore, as far as public appearances go, he'll be playing up being the good guy and careful with how he reacts to others.

Re: QUESTIONS.
Basically, how much can someone sign up but keep to themselves when there isn't a crisis?

However, joining a guild and only appearing for the big all hands on deck events is possible. Characters' stipends may be a bit on the lower end if they're planning on leaning on them(with the Alliance), and the Society does require that members pay their dues (a cut of their earnings typically) but if those aren't a concern, characters can sit back and avoid participating often.
