JUNE OOC INTRO AND PLOTTING POST

OOC INTRO & PLOTTING
HELLO, HEROES AND VILLAINS! Welcome to [community profile] metaheroes! We're absolutely delighted to have you here. This is both our OOC introduction and plotting for your initial arrival! Please use the information below to guide your plotting as you settle in.

Confluences appear to be changing. Though most people arrive together, you are free to have your character's arrival happen later in the week.

You are free to post your intro after reading this post! We will not be posting a log for this.

The GUILDS have begun employing safety measures to prevent new arrivals from destroying the cities they land in. As seen on the last TEST DRIVE MEME, the cities have set up ways to intercept the new arrivals and bring them to headquarters as quickly as possible.

OUTSIDE ATLANTIS—
This Confluence is somewhat different from most of the others. New arrivals will find themselves not falling, but floating upwards. There’s a moment of weightlessness, before a sudden pressure and wetness: you’ve found yourselves at the bottom of the ocean, drifting upwards out of glowing cracks in the earth.

There’s little hope of swimming to the surface, but those who live here are prepared. Magical air bubbles will quickly begin to form around new arrivals, allowing them to breathe and navigate more easily. Those who dodge out of the bubbles will find themselves temporarily able to breathe underwater - though you can sense that this power won't last forever. You'll probably still need someone to help you out here.

In the distance, you can see the lights of an underwater city encased in a massive glass dome. Dark sleek shapes emerge, moving with swift grace through the water towards you. They’re seals - or, more properly, selkies. They’ll gather up as many new arrivals as they can and herd them back towards the city of Atlantis. It’s possible, of course, that some of you may slip through the metaphorical cracks, and have to either swim there on your own or roll in your bubbles like giant hamster balls. Other metas can come out to rescue these stragglers - the Atlanteans have plenty of personal submersibles that they can loan you.

LODGINGS —
Once the Guardian Alliance arrives in Atlantis to offer new arrivals an explanation and trasport back to the surface, characters will be provided with lodgings in the DIADEM HOTEL. Here, guests are offered the finest home away from home experience you could ever hope for. Their culinary staff are capable of cooking up everything from hotdogs to gourmet cuisine. The pool, lounge, and fitness rooms are all open 24/7. Given the continued influx of new guests, arrivals may find their rooms have been double-booked. Hopefully it's a room with two queen-sized beds instead of a king!

Characters are also free to roam CENTRAL CITY and get their bearings, though at the moment, with the guilds distracted and the city doing major repairs following the damage by the Confluence, there is plenty of crime to stop or cause. Characters will be given cell phones with three months of pre-paid unlimited data and assistance with setting up social media accounts on the guild networks, as well as credit cards to help them start a life here.

Player characters will be offered the chance to join the guilds. Those who join will be offered housing at one of the four major cities, with each one offering a different living experience. Characters have two months to decide if they want to throw in with one of the guilds and enjoy the perks of membership, or deal with making their own way in the world without their support.

UNDER THE SEA —
The kaijuu attacks of this month may have been thwarted, but the city of Atlantis is still in the midst of massive fallout. They’ve petitioned for aid from both the Guilds and the governments of the surface, which means that nearly anyone can find their way into a relief effort if they try. Unaligned metas can easily join up with civilian charity groups, and new arrivals are of course already on the scene.

The undersea earthquakes caused by the emerging monsters have caused a great deal of damage throughout Atlantis itself. Buildings and infrastructure alike have collapsed. By now, most people have been recovered from the wreckage, but there’s still some search and rescue efforts going on for anyone so inclined. You can also help with the burgeoning repair efforts. The most urgent of these, naturally, are to do with the cracks. There’s hairline fractures in several parts of the glass dome overarching the enclosed portion of the city. These areas have been evacuated and cordoned off from civilians, but they'll need to be dealt with quickly, and any help would be very much welcomed.

Outside of the city, there’s been a significant environmental impact. You can see the kaijuu blood, iridescent and thick like some kind of mystical oil spill, still floating through the water around here. It’s made it too dangerous for any but the most cautious of selkies to leave the city and swim freely, so it must be filtered out. Volunteers can take small submersible crafts out into the ocean for this mission. They’re primarily science vessels, built to filter pollutants out of the seawater and collect them in tanks; only one person is required to drive it, although it’s recommended that someone also come along to operate the small attached turret.

Why is there a turret? Well, it seems that the kaijuu blood has had strange effects on some of the local fauna. Deep-sea creatures are already pretty alarming, but now there’s things like mutated gulper eels and anglerfish swimming around and attacking anything that moves. Their natural bioluminescence has taken on a flashing, strobe-light effect in a myriad of neon colors. Some may have even developed multiple heads, or even more rows of horrible teeth. Have fun with that!

The Atlanteans will be very appreciative of any help from surface-dwellers with any of these problems. If your character provides significant assistance - or, alternately, causes problems for them- report your actions here to find out what happens!

The repair and reconstruction efforts in Atlantis will be ongoing, with the most major problems lasting at least until JULY 3RD.

I'm forever haunted.

Trust? The government? With this hippie? Never! And while it's probably not as imperative to uphold the Masquerade as strictly as usual (unless the Second Inquisition pops up) she's not into most of that stuff, anyway. Entrancing/emotionally manipulating an audience for her usually only lasts as long as a performance, and she's pretty good at not killing when she feeds off her fans. That generally only happens if she's let herself go hungry or get close to going into frenzy. Technically she can ghoul or sire people, but that comes with weird emotional attachments and responsibility she is not keen to take on now, or probably ever.

Not sure how she'd feel about the cult (honestly though probably not the first time she's known someone with one, vampires are weird) but she's good at respecting boundaries and territories as a byproduct of how things work in vampire politics. Sometimes they'll share from a herd, but hospitality only goes so far and insults like that are serious business when the one insulted wants it to be.

Oh he'll largely be coming by the cult accidentally, probably within the next few months. He has a bad habit of showing up, dealing with whatever supernatural threat is trying to kill somebody in the Falls, then just [literally] disappearing afterward if the person doesn't need any serious medical attention. So it's going to result in some of the people he's saved just sort of making up their own reasons for it and who exactly he is, then running with it until he catches wind of what's going on. Then he'd end up taking it over because he'd be more than a little worried that whoever's making shit up might decide to use the cult for their own ends, and he'd rather it be put to good use.

He dresses like some creepy death cultist from beyond the stars and can literally disappear and reappear whenever he feels like it. He's got enough self-awareness to know that nobody's ever going to assume he's some kind of benevolent entity, so leaving anyone alone to make up their own stories is asking for trouble.

Anyway, he'll be spending a whole lot of time in Atlantis for this confluence, so he could always run into her there! Or whenever you have her exploring the wider world, since he doesn't have access to guild headquarters, and prefers to give both guilds quite a bit of space so he can stay off their radar.

Aw, they're just like overenthusiastic fans! And, yeah, probably better not left unsupervised.

I don't know that she'd stick around Atlantis for too long. Her skillset doesn't lean toward helping that much at all, unless she can sing an anglerfish to sleep or something (which is doubtful if only because singing underwater isn't easy) but she'd be stuck until they can make sure she can go up after sunset.

Does he usually spend his time around Sunset Falls then? She'll probably stay at the hotel long enough to get some resources for herself, but depending on the reputation that's definitely where she'll want to poke around first.

It's definitely where he spends the majority of his time. It's full of magic and the supernatural, and he's a space wizard who eats ghosts (not literally, but if you count ghosts he's technically six people right now). So the place is a natural fit for him. Especially with it being the most welcoming of the major cities, what with them already being completely used to weird and unnatural things happening.

Plus he's got a lingering mystery to solve there, so it's also something to do.
